Assessment in the MYP is unique. It draws on current research and best-practices from around the world, so no matter where you are in the world, assessment in MYP schools will probably be a bit different from local approach to assessment. This can be a challenge for parents and students alike. Whether they are familiar with standards-based grading, percentages, letter grades or proficiency scales, MYP assessment offers something specific.
This resource has been designed to help students and parents understand MYP assessment and how it supports students’ learning. There are two slide decks: one geared towards parents and the other one is for students. Speaker notes are included, so MYP coordinators, school leaders, or teachers can use this in a variety of contexts.
Ideas for using this resource:
- Use this as a plug-and-play workshop at a parent information session about MYP assessment
- Give the presentation during student orientation or at your first day in the academic session
- Record a screencast and post it on your school’s website as a reference for students and parents
- Use a selection of slides in your presentations to prospective families who want to know more about the unique features of the MYP
