In December 2024, the IB launched the Enhanced MYP. It’s not a brand-new programme, but an exciting evolution. At Toddle, we’ve been busy getting everything ready for these updates. We’re excited to share that over 100 schools are already exploring the enhanced MYP with us.
Curious to give it a go at your school? Schools on the beta trial can start exploring these updates right away. Here’s a quick walkthrough of the main changes and how we support them.
Flexible, simplified unit planning
Schools can now create or adapt planners that work for their context, without necessarily adhering to the IB template. Planners should be living documents that reflect local priorities, student interests, and authentic contexts, and not compliance checklists.
The statement of inquiry is replaced with an inquiry question or inquiry statement. Educators have greater flexibility and no longer need to include the global context.
Here’s how Toddle supports this shift:
- Fully customisable MYP unit planners you can adapt to your needs.
- Freedom to move beyond factual, conceptual, or debatable question types, with one flexible field for inquiry questions/statements.
- Prepopulated sections with elements from the MYP guides, so you don’t have to constantly refer back to separate documents.
- A light bulb feature that takes you straight to helpful guidance whenever you need it.
Updated conceptual framework
The distinction between “key” and “related” concepts is gone. Now, each subject group has a single set of specified concepts, and schools can also add their own, such as “justice” or “sustainability,” to reflect local priorities.
For teachers, this means more freedom to design learning that feels authentic and connected to students’ lives. Concepts act as helpful anchors for content and learning experiences.
On Toddle, you can now:
- Access updated lists of subject-specific concepts at a click.
- Add pedagogical and classroom strategies that teachers can define to support conceptual understanding.
- Map concepts across all years of the MYP with admin tools.
- Add local or school-specific concepts easily.
Enhanced global contexts and new contextual lenses
Global contexts remain, and new “contextual lenses” have been added: individual, local, and global. These lenses help students connect learning to themselves, their communities, and the wider world.
Teachers can design units through content, concepts, global contexts, or lenses. This creates more entry points and supports personal and meaningful learning.
Toddle makes this possible by:
- Updating the planner to include the three lenses.
- Adding prompts to help teachers think about strategies for developing contextual focus.
- Supporting planning that centres on real learning connections rather than formalities.
- Acting as a thought partner to guide deeper pedagogical choices.
More agency with the ATLs
The 5 main skill categories haven’t changed, but schools no longer need to use the 10 skill clusters or describe skills in a set statement format (“In order to… students must…”). Instead, they can adapt a shorter, more flexible list of general skills that make sense for their context.
Teachers can now focus on which skills matter most for their students and how they will practise them, rather than on formal statements.
With Toddle, schools are able to:
- Fully customise ATL skills to fit your context and priorities.
- Choose to keep only the main five skill categories or include subskills that feel relevant.
From service as action to community engagement
Service as action has evolved into community engagement. The new focus is on dialogue, relationship-building, and reflective action. The 7 learning outcomes have been replaced with a smaller set of clear objectives, which align better with the PYP and DP.
This change allows teachers to embed community engagement directly into units and support student-led, meaningful action.
Toddle helps you do this through:
- A planner that prompts teachers to include community engagement links in each unit.
- Support for designing authentic and principled experiences that highlight student agency.
