How our teachers built a healthier work-life balance with Toddle AI

IB MYP Coordinator, BISS Gausel, Norway

At our small international school in Stavanger, Norway, we faced a familiar challenge. With 400 students and just 45 teachers, we were time-poor: too many jobs and not enough hours in the day to do them all well. When we asked our team what would help, they requested support with planning, creating resources, differentiating work, and providing feedback.

We’re a Toddle school, so for me, Toddle AI was an obvious solution. It’s already embedded inside our existing workflow, sparing my team the hassle of juggling multiple new AI tools. One of my colleagues compared it to “having another teacher in your pocket,” and I think that sums up my sentiments perfectly.

Let me share four specific ways that Toddle AI helped us show up better for our students, and for ourselves.

We kept our curriculum fresh and creative without overloading our teachers

After years in the classroom, lesson planning can start to feel repetitive and draining. You find yourself thinking, “What more can I do?” A lot of our experienced teachers were naturally gravitating toward reusing older curriculum plans. That’s where the Curriculum Design Assistant stepped up for us.

We’d open a unit plan and brainstorm two weeks’ worth of lessons in under an hour. It automatically pulled in our unit context (the statement of inquiry and concepts) so the suggestions aligned with what we actually wanted for our students, not generic AI responses.

And what was particularly useful for the newer teachers was how Toddle AI had IB expectations built into it. If I was spending 2-3 hours helping them understand curriculum requirements, they were now able to get that level of information in a 15-20 minute conversation with Toddle AI as they went about planning their units. This made my role as a coordinator so much easier as well.

Planning didn’t just get faster with Toddle AI. It’s now an exciting, collaborative process that energizes our teaching team and feels like PD on the go. The quality of our lessons has really improved as a result.

We kept learning continuous even when cover was high

A big hurdle for schools with a staff as lean as ours is setting up meaningful cover when subject teachers are absent. Students often feel a bit lost trying to tackle new concepts on their own, and when teachers do return, they often find themselves reteaching everything, which really throws off the rhythm of learning. Fortunately for us, when our entire science team fell ill simultaneously at the start of the year, we had Toddle’s AI Tutors. I’m an arts teacher with little background in Grade 10 science. But I was able to set up an AI Tutor with comprehensive, interactive learning experiences on topics like copper plating that I couldn’t have taught effectively myself.

It guided students through layered, inquiry-style questions that mirrored our usual classroom approach. It also adapted its tone and complexity based on each student’s answers, keeping them challenged but supported. One student told me later: “It’s like ChatGPT, but the other way around! Instead of me asking it questions, it asks me questions.”

That’s exactly what AI designed for learning is meant to do, and Toddle AI is amongst the very few tools to get it right.

We created a seamless assessment and feedback loop that lightened our workloads

Our IB students need extensive practice with application-based questions that integrate multiple skills. That’s the type that can throw them off in exams. Creating such assessments though is incredibly time-intensive.

With Toddle’s Assessment Builder we could create such questions within 10-15 minutes as opposed to  the 1-2 hours we spent before. What I really love is also the flexibility. I could dial up the challenge for my students who are ready to push themselves, and dial it down for those who need a gentler approach. It meant everyone walked into summative assessments feeling confident and prepared, not just the high-flyers.

The support continued when students submitted their work. Toddle’s AI Grading Assistant handled the initial round of evaluation, using the rubrics we’ve set up. What surprised us was how accurate the feedback turned out to be. It really did match our own thinking. From there, we stepped in to add those personal insights that could only come from actually being in the classroom with students.

Overall assessment and feedback cycles stopped eating into our evenings. As one teacher told me: “Toddle AI takes the sting out of assessment and grading!

Embedding differentiation into every lesson no longer took hours

Another important win has been how Toddle AI has made inclusive learning the default in our classrooms. Before, teachers had to carve out additional time to build differentiation into their lessons. Now it happens naturally as part of the planning process.

For example, we have a Year 9 student with a Year 5 reading level. In the past, we’d create a completely separate learning experience for him, and honestly, he still felt left behind. Now we assign the same AI tutor that we assign to his peers, and the tutor automatically takes care of tailoring resources and scaffolding his tasks while working toward the same learning objectives as his peers.

The AI Tutor’s voice feature in particular has made it easier for him to access content at his level, allowing him to participate fully in classroom discussions and group work.

For us this was a powerful lesson that differentiation doesn’t mean lowering expectations when you provide the right support for every learner to succeed.

The time Toddle AI gave us back made us a happier school

The gains weren’t just in terms of efficiency. We reclaimed what Norway is renowned for: focusing on family, time in nature, and a good work-life balance. Our teachers report being significantly less stressed, and we’ve seen a notable decrease in sickness rates as a result.

The beauty of the Toddle AI system lies in its integration, teachers don’t need to learn multiple prompt systems or juggle different platforms. Whether creating resources that are safe and relevant for student research, generating lesson plans, or providing differentiated support, everything works within our existing workflow. That’s why we get excited every time Toddle releases something new. They’re consistently giving us more tools to do our job better while preserving our humanity and connection to our students.
