Developing Policies | First Steps for MYP Candidate Schools
Your school’s policies describe the commitments that the school community has made to access, inclusion, language learning, academic integrity and assessment. This makes them really powerful tools for guiding the development of the MYP at your school and ensuring that you have the resources and routines that you need to have in place to meet the IB standards and practices.
In general, your school’s policies should:
- Be developed and periodically revised in consultation with stakeholders from across the school community
- Consider the IB learner profile and international mindedness
- Be communicated and available to members of the school community
- Be used by the pedagogical leadership team in decision-making and curriculum development
- Indicate which resources – such as budget, facilities, personnel, and instructional time – will support the implementation of the policy.
This policy reflection checklist provides guiding prompts to discuss as a school community and can be used as a reflection tool for teams who are developing their first set of policies or making revisions to existing policies.
