Navigating your MYP Candidacy Journey 

This interactive map provides guidance about some of the most common, complex steps involved in the journey towards authorisation. The map is organised around the three main areas that you will need to explore:

Remember, every school's journey is unique, so it's important to identify which areas will require the most time and attention. You can always come back to the map whenever you need to.

Did you know that one of the most rewarding things about the MYP is that teachers get to be involved in designing and delivering the curriculum? That means they get to take ownership and create a curriculum that best suits the needs of their students!

Designing the curriculum is an ongoing process, where teachers select concepts, contexts, objectives and ATL skills to include in their units. They then use the Subject Group Overviews and ATL planning documents to ensure that all the skills, objectives, concepts and contexts are being explored across the curriculum.

• Designing unit plans: Submit one unit plan from each subject group required; ideally, these will come from a range of grade levels
• Crafting subject group overviews: Submit one subject group overview for each of the eight MYP subject groups required for every year level included in your school’s MYP implementation plan
• Integrating ATL skills: Submit evidence that teachers have planned a progression through which the ATL skills will be taught and formatively assessed
• Creating interdisciplinary units: Submit at least two interdisciplinary units focused on at least 2 subjects; samples can be from any MYP year level

When it comes to applying for authorisation, you'll need to develop and submit some assessment tasks. It might take some time and effort, but it's an important part of adopting the MYP approach to assessment.

• Samples of assessed student work: You will need to submit at least 3 samples of student work from each subject that have been assessed using the MYP criteria. Ideally, these will come from different grade levels.

Last but certainly not least, when submitting your Application for authorisation, you'll need to include a few important documents. These include:

• A sample school-based report
• Budget
• Policies
• Sample schedules for each grade level
• Description of teachers’ collaborative planning meeting(s)
• Community or Personal Project description
