Lesson 2: Critical Thinking with AI

Lesson overview

In this lesson, we’ll explore the terms accuracy, fairness, and bias: three big ideas that help us think critically about AI-generated content. You’ll learn how to use Toddle’s FAB Check to break down what AI gives you and decide whether it’s trustworthy, useful, and fair.

  • As a teacher, watch the Critical Thinking with AI video independently first.
  • As a class, watch the video together.
  • Complete Exercise 2: Practice with the FAB Check.

Lesson objectives

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Define and explain the terms accuracy, fairness, and bias.
  • Use the FAB framework to evaluate content generated by AI tools.
  • Reflect on how critical thinking helps us use AI more responsibly.

Exercise 2: Practice with the FAB Check

Lesson resources:

Students under 13:
Step 1: Pick a Paragraph
Use the sample AI-generated paragraph provided, or ask your teacher to generate one on a topic your class is curious about. Try this prompt:
“Write a short paragraph about <your favorite topic>.”

Step 2: Use FAB Check
Download and use the FAB Check tool to evaluate the response

Students over 13
Step 1: Choose a Paragraph
Choose something you know a lot about, like Minecraft, your favorite sport, or your favorite topic or subject in school. Then use this prompt with any AI tool:
“Write a short, easy-to-read paragraph about [your topic].”

Step 2: Use FAB Check
Download and use the FAB Check tool to evaluate the response

Teachers
Try writing a lesson plan using an AI tool. If you’re not sure where to begin, download Toddle’s Guide to Lesson Planning with GPT.
Once you’ve created your draft, use the FAB Check.

What’s next

In Lesson 3, we’ll explore the art of prompting and working creatively with AI.

You’ll learn how to give clear and specific instructions to AI so it produces the kind of response you want.
