Curriculum Conversations aims to reframe the purpose of school with curriculum design and instructional leadership at the forefront. Join a collaborative session alongside other school leaders to reflect on what drives powerful teaching and learning. Keeping a solution-oriented mindset, we’ll work together to develop practical strategies to address core curriculum components. 

Led by long-standing changemakers, school leaders and curriculum writers, this virtual event is a chance for you to connect with other curriculum leaders, develop appropriate resources to support teachers, and share knowledge.

Dr Phil Cummins

Learning, living, leading and working as a purpose-driven educator on Wurundjeri (Woiwurrung) land

Phil is Managing Partner at a School for tomorrow, Associate Professor of Education and Enterprise at Alphacrucis University College, Managing Director at CIRCLE - The Centre for Innovation, Research, Creativity and Leadership in Education, and co-host of the Game Changers podcast. Phil has been awarded Fellowships by the Royal Society of Arts, the Australian Council for Educational Leaders and the Institute of Management and Leadership.

Internationally recognised for his work in character education, educational strategy and leadership, future-fit curriculum and indigenous education, Phil has led an extensive global educational research program for the past decade, lectures annually at Oxford University, and is the author of over thirty books and numerous other publications on history, leadership and education; most recently, in 2022 he co-authored Game Changers: Leading Today's Learning For Tomorrow's World for Amba Press.

Gilbert Halcrow

Learning Consultant, Executive Coach, Storyteller

Gilbert is a Visible Learning Master Trainer with extensive experience supporting the implementation of evidence-based practice and learning technologies in schools across Australasian. With experience in Corporate learning, all Education sectors and Creative Industries, Gilbert draws on over 30 years of experience as an educator, consultant, researcher, and arts practitioner to create engaging professional learning experiences that build skills, understanding and efficacy.

Nick Rose

Curriculum leader and advocate | Founder of CWAA

Following a 10-year teaching career, Nick moved into the educational publishing and edtech roles specialising in both print and digital resources. He has contributed to digital and print products for the Australian curriculum, Victorian curriculum, NSW syllabus and other curricula.

Initially, as a curriculum expert, Nick authored two widely used textbooks for the EAL market in Israel, then led teams who created a wide range of educational resources. In 2014, he founded an English and Hebrew language school with supporting digital resources offered across Israel and Palestine.

Moving to Australia in 2021, Nick has led teams consisting of curriculum experts, editorial staff, developers and external vendors. Nick has successfully designed and implemented best-practice digital workflows for both Essential Assessment and Pearson Australia.

As the Founder and Chair of CWAA, Nick guides the committee coordinating the service delivery, membership strategy, outreach, marketing and fundraising of the association.

Melissa O’Shea

Former School Leader, Growth at Toddle

Mel most recently served as the Head of Teaching and Learning at Trinity Lutheran College on the Gold Coast, Australia. She has been a leader at Trinity for the past 7 years. With over 23 years' experience in education, Mel is passionate about inquiry-based learning, universal design for learning and collaborating with other educators to support student growth. She wants all children to have access to engaging learning opportunities, where they are able to grow and thrive. She is currently studying a Masters of Neuroscience and Education and works as a Business Development Manager for Toddle.
