As IGCSE leaders, setting goals and working backward from them is an essential part of supporting teaching at your school, and grade descriptors can be like a guiding torchlight for this process. In this session with Mary George, participants will brainstorm how IGCSE grade descriptors are used in their schools and subjects, explore how the grade descriptors can be used to guide student learning and set targets, and develop a feedback and student self-reflection form. The session will lead to an understanding of how teachers and students can be partners in exam success.
While exams and their related goals can often determine or influence what happens in the classroom, one constant factor in teaching and learning is pausing and questioning the process. What does it mean for students to have really learned something? What makes learning stick? What are active learning and metacognition, and why do they matter? How can school leaders ensure that every teacher delivers great teaching? This session with Rob will address these questions and outline some key principles and results from the science of learning, along with their implications for classroom practice and for school leaders.
